Wollangambe Canyon - Introductory

Wollangambe is a popular "gentle" canyoning trip, which requires no abseiling experience and can be undertaken by canyoners of all ages providing they are a good swimmer.

The best way to see Wollangambe Canyon is to float down it using inflatable lilos. For an invigorating day in the Blue Mountains, a trip down the Wollangambe can't be beaten! The water is slow moving and gently winds it’s way through picturesque canyon scenery between towering sandstone cliffs. A picnic lunch on the white sands of a Wollangambe beach is a memory that will last forever! Though this is an introductory trip, Wollangambe canyon is still a wilderness adventure and requires good fitness.

For those that are feeling adventurous, their is an optional side trip in to the bottom section of Whungee Whengee canyon- Arguably the best slot canyon in the Blue Mountains.

Tigersnake Canyon - Intermediate

This is our Intermediate Canyon through the cooler months (May - September). Abseiling experience is preferred, but a keen sense of adventure is all you require to see this fantastic canyon!

The upper catchment for this canyon has long ago eroded in to the Wolgan Valley- The water which formed it no longer flows down Tigersnake Canyon. This expedition takes place to the North of Katoomba, where the canyons are narrower and the landscape is a sea of amazing rock pagoda formations, in the Gardens Of Stone National Park.

This trip features four exciting and unique abseils up to 25m. The highlight is the final abseil through a hole in the ground which takes us into a deep, dark slot. The canyon in this final section is simply spectacular!

It is a canyon that is not only physically challenging, but offers some great bushwalking in an area not often seen by visitors to the Blue Mountains!

Technical Grade:Medium
Fitness Grade:Medium
Uphill walking:1.5Hrs

Bowens Creek - Intermediate

A little more involved than Serendipity, we reccomend this expedition for those with canyon experience and good fitness.

Bowens Creek is one of the most beautiful canyons we run, some short swims, water jumps, log slides, boulder scrambles, wading and tricky abseiling will be necessary to explore this deep and beautiful canyon. The final slot is long, green, and reminiscent of Claustral Canyon. The walk out involves some roped scrambling up waterfalls and walking through towering Sassafras and Coachwood rainforest.

A spectacular trip that's not quite as involved as our Advanced Canyons yet matches their beauty and excitement.

Butterbox Canyon - Advanced

Before your booking is processed we will contact you to discuss your previous experience and suitability for this trip.

This is a very technical canyon involving the most rope work of any canyon near Katoomba- If you like abseiling in Canyons, this is one awesome trip!

We leave from Mt Hay and after a short entry walk across beautiful heathlands, we find ourself in the top of the canyon. As the canyon walls slowly close in we will descend approximately 330m vertically through abseils, down-climbs, scrambles and waterjumps. The highlight of this trip is the Chockstone Abseil- 20 meters down on to and then 20 off of a small boulder wedged above waterfall. The Canyon at this point is massive- Huge walls on both sides for the water noise to reverberate off. An experiece you won't soon forget!

The exit of this canyon sees us gain 350m of elevation in a very short time. The gradient even reaches vertical and requires a rock climb to gain the next ledge up on the cliffline (Climb is approx 12m tall, approx grade 12, with 100m+ of vertical exposure to the valley below). Good fitness is absolutely necessary for this canyon.

Technical Grade: Hard
Fitness Grade: Hard

Claustral Canyon - Advanced

Before your booking is processed we will contact you to discuss your previous experience and suitability for this trip.

For many this is THE canyon. A huge day out in one of the classic Blue Mountains Canyons.

Our full day expedition will see us descend from Mt Banks into the top of Claustral Brook. After we gear up the fun imediately begins with some obstacles and swims. When we reach the first abseil, we begin our descent in to the Black Hole Of Calcutta- An infamous set of waterfall abseils dropping 45 meters in to near darkness. From here we reach the junction of Ranon Canyon- A 700m long section of vibrant green walls with lots of swims and scrambles. The final length of Ranon Canyon features lots of advanced scrambling on and through slippery surfaces along with several difficult water obstacles.

At the end of our canyon, the difficult walk out begins. We climb up through the ironically named Rainbow Ravine, gaining 220m of elevation as we top out on the Camel's Hump, before descending back in to the top of Claustral Brook for another section of canyon and a few cold swims. We then come back to where we originally entered the canyon and climb back up Mt Banks to our vehicle. The total elevation gain in the afternoon is over 450m, making this exit a 3 hour experience that is not for the unfit.

Technical Grade: Hard
Fitness Grade: Very Hard
Uphill walking: 3+ Hrs
Time: 6:00am - 6:00pm

We provide all specialist personal and group abseiling and canyoning equipment including harnesses, helmets, wetsuits etc. on all canyoning adventures and tours.

Whungee Whengee Canyon - Advanced

Before your booking is processed we will contact you to discuss your previous experience and suitability for this trip.

For many this canyon defines what Blue Mountains canyoning is all about. We start our day from Mt Wilson and descend down to the Wollangambe river. A moment to cool off our feet is followed by an arduous climb up the far side of the river, onto a long ridge that takes us to the top of our canyon- The entry walk takes us approximately 2 hours.

Our first abseil drops us down 15 meters in to Whungee Whengee canyon and the fun begins soon after. Throughout this canyon we will do 3 more abseils and lots of scrambling, squeezing and swimming through fantastic green sections that can't be rivalled. This canyon involves advanced obstacles which will require you to swim through dark tunnels, grovel through pitch black cave squeezes and swim underneath boulder obstacles (water level dependant). This trip is not suitable for the claustraphobic.

The end of Whungee Whengee features the best section of slot canyon to be found near Mt Wilson, narrow, deep and extremely humbling. From here we proceed down the Wollangambe river. Lots of long swims, scrambles and boulder hopping take us to our exit point, and our 2 hour walk back to our vehicle. This day involves approximately 600m of elevation gain.

Technical Grade: Hard
Fitness Grade: Very Hard
Uphill walking: 1 Hr in the Morning
2 Hrs in the Afternoon

Time: 6:00am - 6:00pm

Things You Should Know

Canyoning is not for the faint of heart, but it is extremeley rewarding for those up to the challenge! All participants should have at least moderate fitness- if you're already fit and active- great! If not, we we recommend some pre-trip training in the weeks leading up to your expedition.

Please be aware that:
  • Canyoning involves a variety of challenges- Lots of hiking, cold water swimming, scrambling over slippery surfaces and potentially rock climbing
  • All participants must carry their own pack for the day and while negotiating these obstacles
  • Good, closed toe footwear is required (Old sneakers are adequate)
  • It's going to be cold! We will provide a wetsuit, we recommend you bring a woolen or synthetic fleece layer also (No cotton- it will not work when wet!)
  • A raincoat is required as emergency gear. This will help trap warm air and keep you extra warm. (We can provide this if necessary, but your own will be nicer and fit better!)
  • We recommend all particpants are over 14 Years of age. Please call us if you have younger people who are keen for adventure!
  • Bring spare clothes and a towel- You will need them when you get back to the office
